Custom Builds

Let MHF build your next HGV – we offer a fully bespoke service specialising in demountable equipment, built to the highest quality.

With over 40 years’ experience, MHF has earned a reputation for building long-lasting vehicles that can serve a vast array of purposes, for customers across the UK.

Our dedicated team of mechanics and fabricators are highly skilled, have an eye for detail and work closely with their clients to design and craft purpose-built vehicles predominantly, but not exclusively, for the waste management and building industries. Other customers come from arboriculture, estates management, metal recycling and wood-fuel companies, to name but a few.

Bespoke Builds

Specialising in demountable equipment such as hook-lift, cable-lift and chain-lift kits, MHF is able to supply either new or refurbished equipment that is fully bespoke and, crucially, within the customers’ budget.

Many potential customers contact us directly but others choose to contact us via a local truck dealer depending on their budget and requirements. We welcome either approach and have excellent working relationships with many commercial vehicle dealers.

Builds with MHF

We are often asked to refurbish a used chassis cab, whereby we remove the existing truck-back and fit either a new, or fully refurbished demountable kit in its stead. Alternatively, customers approach their local commercial vehicle dealer (any marque, depending on preference – Volvo, Mercedes, DAF, Renault, Scania etc) and request a quotation for a new chassis fitted with either a new or refurbished kit of their choice.

The dealer will approach us, and we will generally deal with them directly throughout the process. There are many extras that can be added – beacons, extra lights, side baskets etc. Nothing is too much trouble.

This versatility helps us to ensure that we are supplying the most appropriate kit that meets the precise needs of our clients.

No build too big (or too small)

At MHF we’re known for taking on the jobs that other people dismiss. There’s no build too big for our fitters. We have 6 bays between our garage and our well-kitted out fabrication workshop.

Coupled with our vastly experienced team, our integrated paint shop and our expert sales and parts departments, MHF is at the forefront of design and build, and can help every step of the way.

Whether you require a hook-lift, cable-lift or chain-lift build, need a new RORO skip or tipper, or a bespoke product, contact us today for honest no-obligation advice.

Jet plant hire

Build: 8×4 Cable Lift

After meeting with the MD and Transport Manager at Jet Plant Hire in Evesham they decided to invest in the future by having these 2 Volvo 8×4 trucks fitted with brand new MHF Cable lift equipment.

Built from scratch in the workshops here at MHF, our valued staff have turned out these beautiful trucks. When the major manufacturers decided to stop production of the cable lift RORO system MHF stepped up to the plate. The cable lift system remains popular among scaffolders and road contractors and we are the only British company fitting brand new cable lift equipment.

The system has a much higher payload than the rival hook lift and benefits from the ability to put machinery booms over the cab. It can also be fitted to a much shorter wheelbase truck than the hook lift equivalent.

Bensons Products Ltd

Supply & Build: Articulated Hook Trailer

In late 2018 Bensons Products’ owner Neil Holcroft approached MHF with a mammoth project. We undertook a task to utilise his own tractor units in the movement of specialist hook lift containers. MHF sourced a trailer in dire need of refurbishment and set about providing this unit. The trailer has been taken back to a bare frame and completely refurbished. The trailer can carry both standard containers and full length 9 metre long containers whilst making the most of the tractor unit’s maneuverability to get into the tightest spots whilst being able to lift the most weight.

Talk Access Scaffolding

Supply & Build: 6×2 Cable Lift

Leeds based Talk Access Scaffolding approached MHF in late 2018 to buy one of our stock cable lift trucks. It soon became apparent that they weren’t looking for a stock vehicle, they were after something a bit special.

MHF set about sourcing a suitable chassis cab from our local MAN dealer, this 26,000kgs MAN TGS is a 6×2 with a lift and steer axle. Wayne Dickinson the MD of Talk Access worked closely with us getting exactly the right specification of truck. It’s fitted with pretty much every available MAN extra including Alcoa alloys, leather seats, wood dash, heated and air cooled seats, sat nav, 4 way camera and tracking system, air horns and strobes to name but a few. We then fitted the very best MHF Cablelift equipment and sent it on its way to Leeds to help erect scaffolding all over the North of England.

Allens Bobcats

Daf Lf 250 fitted with MHF remote hooklift system
Allens bobcats are yet another new customre that came to us for a quality build. The Cab was sprayed to the customers preference on colour and then we proceeded to do our thing and fit a brand new remote hooklift system of which we have been using on our hire fleet for many years now and have proven to be a very rugged well built piece of equipment with the aded convinience of the remote control system

Byworth Boiler Hire

Build: 8×4 Cable Lift & Crane
Having been shot down in flames by a few companies Peter Baldwin, Managing Director of Byworth Boiler Hire came across MHF and never looked back. We removed the crane from his old cable lift lorry and fitted it to his stretched artic unit. We then fitted the fully refurbished cable lift equipment and added extras to the vehicle. It can be seen delivering temporary hire boilers across the UK and beyond.

Elvis Kirk Trading

Supply & Build: Tri-Axle Hook Lift Trailer
Across the water in Northern Ireland, Elvis Kirk had an unusual request. Can you put a Hook Lift on a short artic trailer? These are fairly common using 30ft long bins but are no use if you only want a 20ft bin. We set about sourcing a skeletal trailer and fitted a 25 tonne equipment to it. The trailer was then completely refurbished, fitted with weigh cells and a remote control system. It was delivered to the port and is now working away nicely.

Gloucester Asbestos Ltd

Build: 4×2 Skip Loader
Having built them a new lorry back in 2014, Gloucester Asbestos were that impressed with the equipment they decided to purchase a new DAF and have their original MHF Chain Lift equipment refitted to it.
